Siegfried Zademack
Born in Bremen on December 24, 1952.
The semantic sources of his art are history and the present in equal measure. The art historical quotation stands, so to speak, next to the Coca-Cola bottle. His true teachers are the masters of the Italian Early and High Renaissance, right up to those of Mannerism. The syntax of his works is completely determined by that of the masters of classical art. The astonishing thing is that in adopting them for his own pictorial inventions, he uses a technique so perfect as is necessary for his intentions. His figural inventions are clearly and plastically shaped; however, his iconology presupposes a great deal of art historical and political knowledge. In some quotations, one recognizes the difference from the surrealist approach; it is the historical approach, which, however, and this is the current aspect – was not yet possible in the time of Mannerism. Descartes had already seen it, without having thematized it – *mundus est fabula*. The world, a great fable, a constantly unfolding story in which we are constantly involved.
Before Siegfried Zademack began painting, he had images in his head that he was unable to realize because he lacked the necessary technique. A short visit to an academy quickly convinced him that he couldn't learn what he wanted to learn there. So Zademack took the difficult path of self-study, visiting museums and galleries to delve into the techniques of the old masters, likely finding one or two mentors along the way, and painstakingly acquired knowledge about colors, pigments, glazes, solvents, and mixtures, much like alchemists once did.

1977 First solo exhibition in Heidelberg - Galerie Blanche - approximately 30 works, mostly small-format, are exhibited, several of which are sold.
1981 First major exhibition: the Bollhagen Gallery in Worpswede displays more than 50 paintings, a large proportion of which are sold.
1982 Solo exhibition in Hamburg at the Happy-Jos Gallery.
