Gunta Stölzl: Pioneer of Bauhaus weaving (Small series of people)

Gunta Stölzl was a member of the Bauhaus for almost 13 years, first as a student and journeyman in Weimar, then as a master in Dessau. She designed and wove a wealth of impressive interior textiles and developed new, industrially produced fabrics for modern interiors. The weaving workshop was the best-functioning and most successful Bauhaus workshop throughout the entire period. In Dessau, Gunta Stölzl set up a course of study and was one of the first women to take on a leading position at a university. Through creativity, hard work and persistence, Stölzl and her students produced high-quality products that were widely recognized until the influence of the National Socialists at the Bauhaus forced her to resign. She always remained an idiosyncratic, creative personality about whom far too little is known. The diverse products of her hand weaving workshop in Zurich still inspire her successors in textile design today.
